    I’ve adopted a street tree at 1945 Mass Ave., near the old Newtowne Grille. The well is covered by a grate, and I’m wondering about the purpose of that. Can it be removed? I ask because the grate means I can't mulch the well, and no mulching means no improving the soil. Also if weeds grow thru the grate slats, they’re surprising tough to pull. Thanks for your reply.

    But they missed the pickup at the corner of Orchard and Allen.
